While playing in the snow, Natsume and Nyanko-sensei encounter Gen, a forest guardian residing within a statue. Gen attempts to possess Natsume but ends up taking over a snow rabbit created by Natsume instead. He then asks Natsume for help in finding an evil spirit responsible for destroying Sui, his guardian partner, and Natsume agrees to assist him. However, it appears that Gen is withholding some information regarding the situation.
