Ep. 2: Perry opens ports while Nozomu reveals despair and Ikkyu seeks marriage

This episode presents two simultaneous narratives using a shared visual screen with distinct audio and subtitle tracks. The first story features American Commodore Perry, who visits the school on its founding anniversary to open its ports and minds. He attempts to open Nozomu Itoshiki’s perspective, but Nozomu unleashes a wave of despair. Perry learns he cannot open everything, yet the characters speak gibberish while subtitles reveal a parallel plot where Perry is Son Goku seeking Dragon Balls and Nozomu is an alien antagonist. In the second segment, Nozomu complains about societal over-decoration, which Kafuka Fuura dismisses as an elite trend. Nozomu then meets Ikkyū-san, an old friend who values antiquities. Ikkyū aims to marry Nozomu’s sister, Rin, to gain a former surname. Although Rin attempts to escape via her butler, the butler persuades Ikkyū to proceed. Kafuka ultimately discovers that Nozomu and Ikkyū are merely friends from their first day of school.
