Nozomu Itoshiki and students discuss trivialities during Tanabata before the El Niño alien race invades Japan with mechas. Chiri activates an ancient mask to defeat them, and the aliens admit their error in focusing on minor details. Nozomu and Ikkyū-san forget the victory due to their distraction. In the second part, Jun Kudō reads in the library while Nozomu fears Jun will read his embarrassing thoughts. Jun’s heartwarming stories move visiting students to tears, confirming Nozomu’s belief in Jun’s mind-reading ability, prompting Nozomu to hide in a penguin room. The third part depicts Majiru Itoshiki and Kiri Komori during the invasion. It concludes with Nozomu despairing over survey results showing the side story was more popular than the main episode, highlighting the theme of misplaced attention.
