Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken

After the demon lord Hadlar is defeated, monsters are freed from his control and relocate to the island of Delmurin, where they live in peace. The only human on the island, Dai, was raised by the monster Brass and dreams of becoming a hero. His chance comes when Hadlar is resurrected and the former hero Avan arrives to train him. Hadlar, now serving a more powerful demon lord, attacks Avan, leading to a battle in which Avan uses a Self-Sacrifice spell but fails to defeat him. As Dai and Avan’s student Pop face certain death, Dai is marked on the forehead and gains extraordinary powers, allowing him to fight off Hadlar. With Avan’s fate uncertain, Dai and Pop begin a journey to avenge him and restore peace.
