A boy named Valflare, known as Flare, resides in a secluded village of sorcerers at the edge of the world. Raised alone by Tuck, who serves as both his parent and mentor, he learns the martial art Jutouryuu, which blends spellcraft with physical combat. The village holds a hidden duty: its inhabitants are the guardians of the Hell Gate, a portal to hell where eternal flames burn. Every century, a sacrifice is required to be offered at the gate. Flare is selected as the one to fulfill this obligation.
