In the early 1960s, South Korea experienced a significant shift in its food culture after the war, as people faced daily starvation and relied on leftover honey-porridge from US military bases. Jeon Joong-Yoon sought to improve the lives of those in poverty by providing better meals. Kim Hang-pil, a former KATUSA soldier now working a new job, is inspired to join Joong-Yoon’s efforts, thinking of someone he cares for. Lee Young-Hee, who sells honey-porridge in an unlicensed shantytown, endures the hardships left by war. Amidst the suffering of loved ones and neighbors, dedication and perseverance led to the creation of ramen, a food that came to represent the struggles and resilience of ordinary people.
