ODESSEY: 1966-2005 Okada Fumiko Sakushinshuu

A two-volume retrospective collecting Okada Fumiko's short manga from 1966 through 2005. Volume one assembles sixteen pieces ranging from delicate, dreamlike vignettes like 'Glass Dama', 'Sunroom no Hirusagari' and 'Mizuiro no Ningyou' to more pointed character studies such as 'Aishishugita Otoko' and 'Tokko Samishii Kokoro', alongside symbolic works including 'Freiheit to Shiroi Hone', 'Aka to Ao' and 'Tengoku no Hana'. Volume two leans further toward the strange and the symbolic with stories like 'Pygmalion', the two-part 'Shinde Shimatta Tekubi: Ashuraou', 'Miminashi Hohho', the 'Kaen' triptych, 'Umi no Soko no Nichiyoubi', 'Jaaku no Jack' and the closing 'Okada Fumiko no Hako'. Together the volumes trace the author's shifts in tone and theme across roughly four decades of work.
