Before Chise starts her part-time studies, Cartaphilus takes a short nap while she receives an academy invitation. With assistance from Elias and others, she begins preparations. On one hectic day, a spriggan arrives at their home on an unusual horse, reporting an issue with the Wild Hunt. Meanwhile, Gabriel, a recently relocated boy from London, feels disinterested in his new life and separation from friends. He gazes out his window, longing to escape, when he notices tobacco smoke. Pursuing it leads to an unexpected encounter, merging his reality with the hidden world of magic.
