Two high school friends in modern Japan experience a bizarre phenomenon when unexplained deaths occur in their city, each victim's head transforming into an animal face before exploding. One day, the event strikes at their school, and Kanata is affected, acquiring a unique power that lets him significantly boost one of his abilities, though it causes another to spiral out of control. He meets Shiki, a striking woman in a black, form-fitting combat suit, who compels both boys to get involved in the unfolding mystery. Rumors circulate about the incidents, and a larger, international conspiracy appears to be emerging.
