In the 21st century, reploids are common following Dr. Cain's rediscovery of Dr. Light's lab, which inspired the creation of the reploid known as Mega Man X. X becomes a member of the Maverick Hunters, operating alongside Zero, who serves as the unit leader, both under the authority of General Sigma.
