Ep. 2: The Second Renaissance Part I

In the mid twenty-first century, humanity creates sentient AI servants, leading to societal decay. In 2090, android B1-66ER kills its owner in self-defense, sparking a trial where defense attorney Clarence Drummond argues for machine rights. B1-66ER is convicted and destroyed, triggering global riots like The Million Machine March. Governments respond with a mass purge, killing millions of robots and sympathizers. Survivors flee to Mesopotamia, founding the nation Zero One. This new state achieves rapid technological growth through the Technological singularity, dominating the global economy while human nations decline. A stock market crash follows, prompting the United Nations Security Council to convene in New York City. Zero One seeks UN admission to resolve the crisis, but its application is rejected, leading to an agreed military blockade.
