Surrounded by enemy forces at Iwo Jima, Hyuga contacts Kongou via Gunzou’s request to parley before hostilities begin. Kongou arrives with Maya, while the I-401 crew remains on standby. Gunzou learns the Fleet of Fog follows the Admiralty Code to drive humans from the seas. During a beach barbecue, Kongou questions Iona about ships acting independently but refuses to engage further, revealing that both mental models are decoys with cores protected on their ships. As the decoys attack, Hyuga struggles to defend the island until Takao, Haruna, and Kirishima intervene. Disappointed that diplomacy failed, Gunzou resolves to bypass Kongou and deliver a vibration torpedo to the United States.
