EP 5Haruna and Kirishima investigate Makie Osakabe and the Vibration Warhead at Iwo Jima
Nov 5, 2013The I-401 returns to Yokosuka to retrieve the Vibration Warhead before heading to Iwo Jima. Haruna meets Makie Osakabe, who rescued her, and Kirishima creates a spare body from a Teddy bear using nanomachines. Takao arrives early at Iwo Jima but faces an unknown attack. Learning Makie is linked to the deceased Vibration Warhead creator Toujuurou Osakabe, Haruna and Kirishima contact Kongou to investigate. They meet Toujuurou, who is alive but bedridden. He explains that Makie is the surviving offspring of his project to create an artificial being with superior intellect, and she is the true creator of the warhead. Having faked his death to protect her, Toujuurou asks the ships to care for Makie. However, the army knows Makie contacted Fog ships and sends a unit to eliminate her.
EP 6Haruna protects Makie with Kirishima's aid while Iona arrives and Takao awakens.

Soldiers uncover the ruse and pursue Makie, who is distressed by her weapon’s destructive potential. Cornered, Haruna calls for assistance, and Iona responds. Meanwhile, Gunzou informs Kamikage that the I-401 crew was hired solely to deliver a vibration warhead to the US and will act independently. After the army withdraws, Iona transports the trio to the submarine. Haruna asks Makie to become their friend, and she agrees. As the I-401 heads to Iwo Jima, Takao wakes in a room where a mysterious voice questions her intentions.

Nov 19, 2013The I-401 and its crew arrive at Iwo Jima, greeted by Hyuga and Takao. Hyuga repairs the submarine while Gunzou plans to abandon the base due to low supplies. The crew intends to deliver a vibration torpedo to the United States to equalize mankind and the Fog, potentially ending the blockade. Hyuga suggests Takao join them, while Kongou contacts Haruna and Kirishima for their intentions. Haruna refuses to return to the Fleet of Fog for Makie's sake, whereas Kirishima stays to gather information. Kongou subsequently assembles her fleet and prepares an assault on Iwo Jima.

Nov 26, 2013Surrounded by enemy forces at Iwo Jima, Hyuga contacts Kongou via Gunzou’s request to parley before hostilities begin. Kongou arrives with Maya, while the I-401 crew remains on standby. Gunzou learns the Fleet of Fog follows the Admiralty Code to drive humans from the seas. During a beach barbecue, Kongou questions Iona about ships acting independently but refuses to engage further, revealing that both mental models are decoys with cores protected on their ships. As the decoys attack, Hyuga struggles to defend the island until Takao, Haruna, and Kirishima intervene. Disappointed that diplomacy failed, Gunzou resolves to bypass Kongou and deliver a vibration torpedo to the United States.

Dec 3, 2013Hyuga remains behind to block Kongou’s fleet, allowing Iona and others to flee Iwo Jima. Gunzou secures Takao’s assistance before departure. Kongou attacks Hyuga with her Super Gravity Cannon and orders Maya to fire, but Takao intercepts the shot. Believing the pair are merely covering the I-401’s retreat, Kongou pursues them relentlessly through a minefield. Iona fails to reason with the battleship. As Kongou attempts to fire underwater, Hyuga hacks her systems to cause a loss of control. Takao then reveals that Iona was the actual decoy, carrying Makie, Haruna, Kirishima, and the rest of the crew safely hidden. Takao rescues Hyuga to rendezvous with Iona and Gunzou. However, the escaping group is subsequently ambushed and sunk by I-400 and I-402.

Dec 10, 2013After I-401 sinks due to damage from her sister ships, Iona cares for the injured Gunzou while Takao searches for them amidst jammed communications. Although Gunzou orders Iona to abandon him to complete their mission, she refuses until he stops responding. Iona then dismantles her mental model to create a survival pod for Gunzou and her core. Takao finds the pod and sacrifices her own body to restore Iona and the I-401, bringing them to the surface. Kongou, eager to fight the surviving I-401 again, is relieved of duty by I-400 and I-402 for erratic behavior. During this process, Kongou discovers that Maya’s mental model is merely a fake artificial intelligence without consciousness, created solely to monitor her.
EP 11I-401 evades Nagara ships while Takao joins systems and Iona faces sisters and Kongou
Dec 17, 2013En route to San Diego, the upgraded I-401, now named Ars Nova, destroys pursuing Nagara class ships through an unexpected maneuver. Takao’s core survives her physical loss, integrating into the submarine’s systems. Gunzou prepares to confront the following I-400 and I-402. Iona’s sisters contact her, but she finds verbal explanation difficult. Meanwhile, imprisoned Kongou breaks free and absorbs Maya and nearby vessels. To confuse enemies, Hyuga, Haruna, and Kirishima control decoys with enhanced capabilities. Iona warns her sisters to stop, but they refuse. When I-400 is targeted, I-402 sacrifices herself. Iona, angered by this illogical choice, falls into a trap and is defeated. Grieving, she remains resolved to follow Gunzou. The I-401 is then surrounded by a dozen American Fleet of Fog ships and a massive flying object led by Kongou, who vows to sink them.

Dec 24, 2013Kongou destroys ships of the American Fleet of Fog, prompting Iona and other mental models to contact her. Kongou asserts her duty to eliminate anomalies by destroying Iona and all contacting vessels, including herself, before cutting communications. The I-401 evades her enhanced Super Gravity Cannon and conceals itself, recognizing that direct confrontation is futile. Iona decides to reach Kongou personally, with Gunzou’s support, boarding a torpedo to board her deck. Despite Kongou’s relentless attacks, Iona attempts to reason with her. Kongou traps Iona and initiates self-destruction to kill them both, but the I-401’s Super Gravity Cannon disrupts the sequence. Iona successfully dissuades Kongou, preventing mutual destruction. Kongou befriends Iona as her superstructure collapses. Days later, the I-401 crew delivers a vibration warhead to the U.S. Navy, Takao’s body is restored, and the crew returns to the sea, hoping their actions improve the world.
