Ep. 9: Hyuga and Takao defend against Kongou while Iona and the crew execute a complex escape plan.
Hyuga remains behind to block Kongou’s fleet, allowing Iona and others to flee Iwo Jima. Gunzou secures Takao’s assistance before departure. Kongou attacks Hyuga with her Super Gravity Cannon and orders Maya to fire, but Takao intercepts the shot. Believing the pair are merely covering the I-401’s retreat, Kongou pursues them relentlessly through a minefield. Iona fails to reason with the battleship. As Kongou attempts to fire underwater, Hyuga hacks her systems to cause a loss of control. Takao then reveals that Iona was the actual decoy, carrying Makie, Haruna, Kirishima, and the rest of the crew safely hidden. Takao rescues Hyuga to rendezvous with Iona and Gunzou. However, the escaping group is subsequently ambushed and sunk by I-400 and I-402.
