As entrance exams approach, Tomo attempts to stump Chiyo with wordplay, but Osaka answers correctly by accident. After Osaka worries about his career, Yukari defends Chiyo’s feelings. The group studies at Chiyo’s home and visits a shrine on New Year’s Day to pray for success. Tomo receives a bad fortune, but Yukari reveals the priest’s son failed, making the predictions irrelevant. Osaka suggests a superstition involving splitting chopsticks for luck, and Chiyo provides handmade charms. During a final study session, Chiyo reflects on their rapid progress toward graduation. Sakaki and Kagura pass their exams, while Tomo and Osaka fail initially. However, they eventually succeed through another chance, leaving only Yomi to take her test.
