This episode explores Black Jack’s past, focusing on his middle school friend Gerra, who was known for his constant laughter. Gerra explained that he laughed because he enjoyed happiness and spreading joy to others. After learning that Gerra’s parents abandoned him due to debt, mafia thugs attacked the boy, stabbing him in the neck with a dart and permanently damaging his ability to laugh. Kuro promised to become a doctor to heal his friend. Years later, during his medical studies, Kuro visited Gerra, who remained bedridden and unable to laugh. Black Jack performed surgery to restore Gerra’s condition. The operation was successful, but shortly after, Black Jack received news that Gerra had died while laughing.
