Ikkaku remembers meeting Kenpachi Zaraki as a vagrant in the Rukongai, where Kenpachi defeated him and defined luck as surviving a battle. Upon learning Kenpachi became a captain in the Thirteen Court Guard Squads, Ikkaku and Yumichika joined his division. During his time in the eleventh division, Ikkaku trained Renji, who asked him to become a captain after discovering Ikkaku could use his bankai. Ikkaku declined, stating he only wished to fight and die under Kenpachi’s command. In the present timeline, Ikkaku defeats Edorad, and Yumichika congratulates him on the victory. This narrative is part of the Arrancar: The Arrival arc, specifically episode 10 out of 22.
