Ichigo activates his Hollow mask to overpower Grimmjow but fails to defeat him within the eleven-second time limit, allowing Grimmjow to gain the upper hand. Simultaneously, Hitsugaya engages Yammy in combat. Luppi orders Yammy to retreat so he can confront the remaining Soul Reapers. He releases his Zanpakuto, which sprouts eight tentacles, and uses them to knock Hitsugaya down and capture the group. Before Luppi can kill Rangiku, Urahara arrives and severs one of the tentacles before engaging Yammy. In Soul Society, Ulquiorra attacks Orihime as she attempts to enter the real world. He severely wounds her Soul Reaper guards and threatens to kill her friends if she does not leave with him.
