A flashback reveals Kouga was once a Kuchiki clan member and son-in-law of Ginrei Kuchiki, who relied heavily on his zanpakutou. He assisted in suppressing a Soul Reaper rebellion but faced suspicion from peers who attacked him. After defeating his assailants, jealous high-ranking Soul Reapers framed him for killing allies, leading to his imprisonment. Kouga eventually escaped with Muramasa's assistance. In the present timeline, Kouga awakens and successfully repels both Ichigo and Rukia. Immediately after this confrontation, he suddenly stabs Muramasa. This event occurs during the Zanpakutou Unknown Tales arc, specifically episode 21 out of 26.
