Kyotaro returns to school with a broken arm, prompting his teacher to suggest a classmate assist him. When the teacher proposes Yamada, Kyotaro embarrassingly denies they are friends, unaware she is nearby. Hurt by his words, Yamada avoids him until Kyotaro apologizes, explaining he did not want to burden her. Yamada accepts his apology and agrees to help him. For three weeks, she assists with studying, notes, and home economics. Kyotaro later discovers Yamada appears in idol magazines and expresses support for her work. At the library, he accidentally reveals his injury is partly her fault, upsetting her. The following day, Yamada cries over a lost keychain. Kyotaro finds it on a tree branch near her home. Due to heavy snow, Yamada invites him inside to warm up.
