Kyotaro and Yamada begin their third year of middle school, holding hands in class and drawing glares. Chi joins their homeroom after checking the faculty office. Yamada gifts Kyotaro a wallet chain, but they hide from three girls who enter the room. Yamada accidentally pulls Kyotaro’s pants down, shocking Sekine, who refuses to cover for them. Kyotaro tells the boys he is glad they are friends. Later, at the library, they discuss height changes, but Yurine interrupts before Kyotaro can confess. The next day, Yurine switches seats so Yamada sits next to Kyotaro. He keeps his distance to avoid suspicion. He finds a note from Yamada to Yurine explaining they are not a couple yet and that she does not need help advancing their relationship. Embarrassed, Kyotaro feels a stronger urge to ask Yamada out.
