Kawaki joins Team 5 on a mission to capture a panda for Shikamaru and Naruto to assess his genin potential. He falls asleep, allowing the animal to escape, though Iwabe and Denki succeed. After leaving while his teammates berate him, Kawaki trains alone. The group discusses his suitability at a restaurant, where Boruto offers advice but Kawaki rejects friendship. Assigned to Team 15, Kawaki scares a child they were escorting. Naruto declares this his final chance to become a genin, but Kawaki quits, citing his unsuitability for shinobi life, and collects his pay. Hinata explains to Boruto that Kawaki lacks social skills due to his past. Later, Kawaki discusses goals with Sarada after finding her training. After a night of practice, he returns for a mission with their client Mozuku.
