Following a stabbing, Hana employs Fire Style to destroy a bridge and flee into the woods. The class arrives after hearing an explosion, with Kawaki claiming Hana killed Kae. Himawari questions the logic of an assassin killing a target openly, suggesting it is a ruse and that Hana holds Kae hostage. The group decides to work together to rescue Kae. In a nearby cave, Hana informs the awakened Kae that she awaits associates to exchange her for an arrested minister, after which they plan a jailbreak. The students use ropes to cross a ravine and track Hana. Kawaki stops the group, revealing his shinobi status, and pursues Hana alone, followed by Himawari. Kawaki eventually confronts Hana while she waits for her accomplices.
