Boruto wakes in a room with bounty hunter Anaguma and prisoner Rokuro, having survived a Thunder Train accident. They meet Hidden Leaf shinobi Kiseru Gankubi and are confronted by an old man named Ouga, who reveals they are in his secret underground maze. Ouga explains he is experimenting on survivors to understand why they lived while others died. He announces five tests, threatening death for failure. When a Mist shinobi volunteers for a preliminary test, Ouga kills him with a puppet hand. The first challenge requires climbing to safety before the floor collapses. While many reach the top, Anaguma falls to his death. Rokuro manages to free himself during the chaos. Ouga congratulates the survivors and orders them to rest before the next test begins.
