Chrono receives a new Gear Chronicle card and assists Takeru Baba, a traveling Vanguard fighter who collapses from hunger. Takeru insists on repaying Chrono’s kindness by following him, but faints again. Chrono takes him to a card shop to eat, where he observes Shion battling other players. Takeru notes that a past encounter changed Shion and shares his philosophy that every meeting holds meaning. Intrigued, Chrono challenges Takeru to a cardfight. Their intense match draws the attention of all surrounding players away from Shion’s games. Chrono emerges victorious, and the two rivals promise to face each other again in the local qualifiers for the upcoming Vanguard National Tournament.
