The preliminary rounds consist of four sections, with the top two competitors from each advancing to the finals. Goku and Krillin are placed in the same section but on opposite ends, ensuring they do not face each other. Goku defeats a giant opponent with a light tap to the leg. Krillin fights an adversary from his former martial arts school, kicking him so forcefully that he breaks through a wall. Bulma, Oolong, and Puar watch the match through the resulting hole. By the end of the day, Goku, Krillin, and Yamcha all successfully advance to the quarter final round of the World Martial Arts Tournament.
