Goku and Cell engage in an intense battle with equal strength and speed. After Goku nearly falls, Cell destroys the ring to continue the fight without restrictions. Their power escalates rapidly. Goku attempts to trick Cell by preparing a Kamehameha wave from the air. Cell assumes Goku will not risk destroying the Earth and leaves himself undefended. While other fighters watch in horror, Goku uses Instant Transmission to appear directly beneath Cell. He fires the wave straight into Cell's chest, severely maiming him. The dust clears to reveal Cell defeated, suggesting Goku has won the tournament.
