Ten years prior to the current events, Shirou Emiya was rescued from the great Fuyuki City fire by Kiritsugu Emiya. During a routine school day, Shirou inadvertently observes a clandestine engagement between two Servants. Lancer, aware of the unauthorized witness, acts on his Master's command to eliminate Shirou. Although Rin successfully resuscitates him following the initial assault, Lancer launches a second attack later that same night. As Shirou endures the brunt of Lancer's offensive, a new Servant is summoned directly before his eyes.

Shirou learns the truth about the Fuyuki fire and joins the Holy Grail War as a Master.

Following Lancer's attack, Rin rushes to the Emiya estate and takes Shirou to the Fuyuki Church. There, Kotomine Kirei, the overseer of the Holy Grail Wars, explains the conflict to Shirou, leaving him shocked by the details. The revelation that the devastating fire ten years ago, which injured Shirou, was caused by the Holy Grail War changes his perspective. Consequently, he decides to participate in the war as a Master, driven by the desire to understand and perhaps prevent such tragedy from happening again.

Shirou faces a Servant and Illyasviel while Rin struggles against Berserker

Following their departure from the church, Shirou and his companions encounter a Servant accompanied by a young girl named Illyasviel. Meanwhile, Rin and her allies find themselves severely outmatched by the formidable strength of Berserker. Upon arriving at the location, they discover an unexpected situation that alters the course of their encounter. This event forces them to cooperate briefly despite their ongoing rivalry and mutual annoyance.

Rin and Shirou form a truce to confront a hidden Master while Shinji reveals his alliance with Rider.

Rin and Shirou establish a temporary truce to address the presence of another Master concealed within the school. Before this arrangement can stabilize, Shinji approaches Shirou to disclose that he is Rider’s Master, proposing a joint effort. Later, Shirou engages in magic practice inside the storehouse. He subsequently awakens at Ryudou Temple, which has been transformed into Caster’s lair. The narrative focuses on these shifting alliances and the sudden displacement of Shirou to the temple, highlighting the complex interactions between the Masters and their Servants as they navigate the ongoing conflict.

Saber confronts Assassin while Shirou clashes with Archer at Ryudou Temple

Saber reaches Ryudou Temple to rescue Shirou but is stopped by Assassin, whose swordsmanship exceeds typical expectations for his class. Meanwhile, in the temple courtyard where Shirou is held, Archer and Caster engage in combat. During their confrontation, Shirou expresses strong disgust toward Archer’s philosophy and way of thinking. The episode highlights the intense barriers Saber faces and the ideological conflict between Shirou and Archer amidst the ongoing battle at the temple.

Shirou and Rin confront a school magic circle to stop Shinji after training with Saber

Following his training sessions with Saber, Shirou attends school and receives renewed confirmation of his alliance with Rin during lunch break. Suddenly, a magic circle previously established within the school grounds is activated. Shirou utilizes one of his Command Seals to summon Saber to his aid. Together with Rin, the pair sets out to locate Shinji and dismantle the dangerous magical formation before it can cause further harm.

Rider eliminated as Shinji seeks refuge with Kirei and a new Servant

After Rider is eliminated for protecting Shinji from Caster, Rin shifts her focus from identifying the enemy Master to repairing the strained relationship between Archer and Shirou. Meanwhile, Shinji, having lost his Servant, visits Kirei at the church to seek refuge. During their meeting, Shinji voices his dissatisfaction with Rider. In response, Kirei informs him that a new Servant is available for him to summon. This encounter marks a turning point for Shinji as he transitions from his previous alliance to considering a new contract under Kirei's guidance.

Rin and Shirou confront Kuzuki after suspecting him of being Caster’s Master

Concluding from Issei’s testimony that Kuzuki is Caster’s Master, Rin devises a plan to attack him alongside Shirou on the same day. During the ambush, Kuzuki offers no resistance to Rin’s sneak attack, prompting Shirou to approach him. However, Caster suddenly appears. Shirou attempts to sway Kuzuki by detailing Caster’s atrocities, but Kuzuki instead reveals his true nature, exposing his actual allegiance and intentions to the pair.

Shirou loses sensation after battle while Rin visits and Archer recognizes symptoms

Shirou and his allies defeat Kuzuki and Caster in combat. As a consequence of overusing mana, Shirou suffers from a complete loss of feeling in the left half of his body. The next day, Rin visits Shirou at his residence, claiming he missed their scheduled check-in. She unexpectedly decides to stay the night for unknown reasons. Later, Archer observes Shirou’s physical condition and remarks that he has witnessed these specific symptoms in the past.

Shirou and Saber join Rin for a date that turns into a hostage crisis with Caster.

Following Rin’s suggestion, Shirou and Saber spend the day relaxing together, temporarily setting aside their battles. Their peace is shattered when Caster launches another attack, this time holding Fujimura hostage to force Shirou’s cooperation. Despite Shirou’s firm refusal to join her cause, Caster retaliates by stealing both his Command Seals and Saber. Enraged by his rejection, she leaves him defenseless, marking a significant escalation in the conflict as the trio faces the immediate threat of Caster’s wrath.
