US and Japanese naval forces attempt to intercept retaliatory missiles, but one penetrates defenses and detonates near Japan. The resulting EMP disables electronics, causing Shido's bus to crash and destroy a barricade. A massive zombie horde approaches the mansion, and despite Soichiro ordering the main gate closed, the zombies breach it, triggering panic. The Takagis direct their followers and remaining survivors to fight and retreat to an unbreached safe zone. They entrust Saya's safety to Takashi and his group, who fight their way to an EMP-resistant Humvee. After fixing the vehicle, the group departs the mansion while others hold off the horde. Despite the chaos, the group remains optimistic and eventually reaches a mall on foot.
