They escape before school panic spreads. Teacher Mr. Wakisaka, now a zombie, bites Hisashi. Takashi kills the teacher by smashing its head. The trio barricades on the rooftop, watching Self-Defense Force helicopters fight the city outbreak. Hisashi succumbs to his injury, forcing Takashi to kill him despite Rei's objections. Rei insults Takashi, who nearly leaves alone. After she apologizes, they embrace briefly.

They travel to Onbetsu Bridge, where they encounter more zombies before being rescued by the timely arrival of Takashi and Rei. Seeking shelter for the night, Shizuka proposes staying at her friend Rika's apartment, noting a Humvee parked outside. The group enters the building, which is infested with zombies, and engages in combat to survive the immediate threat.

Aug 9, 2010After securing the apartment, the girls bathe while Takashi and Kohta inspect weapons. At the blockade, police endure attacks from zombies and civilians, including protesters led by a conspiracy theorist claiming the epidemic is a government biological weapon. With no reinforcements, officers are ordered to use lethal force to maintain control. Meanwhile, Takashi manages Rei and Shizuka, who are intoxicated. After reuniting, the entire group resolves to travel to the opposite side of the river.

Takashi's group crosses a river, finding it empty, and changes into new weapons. They head toward Saya's house, encountering more zombies and a wire barrier that knocks Rei off the Humvee. The group struggles with unfamiliar combat and courage. Takashi and Saeko attempt to draw the horde away but fail. Just as the situation deteriorates, firefighters led by Yuriko Takagi provide assistance. Takashi and Saeko proceed along a separate path while the others receive aid from the rescue team.
9EP 9Takashi and Saeko evade zombies using a vehicle and confront past trauma at a shrine
Aug 30, 2010Takashi and Saeko use an amphibious vehicle to escape zombies, eventually abandoning it in a park fountain to draw enemies while Saeko engages them. She hesitates upon encountering zombie children, requiring Takashi's assistance. They camp at a shrine where Saeko confesses to nearly killing a rapist four years ago, admitting she enjoyed the act and feels unworthy of love. Takashi kisses her in response. The following morning, surrounded by zombies, Saeko refuses to fight due to her sadistic nature. Takashi expresses his admiration, motivating her to defeat the horde with a real sword. Embracing their darker sides, the pair successfully reaches Saya's house.
10EP 10The Dead's House Rules: Takagi's Arrival and Shido's Orgy
Sep 6, 2010After staying at Saya’s fortified mansion, the group debates remaining with her family or maintaining independence. Saya is upset that her father presumed her dead during the outbreak, but Takashi’s reminder that her parents are alive soothes her. Soichiro Takagi, a right-wing nationalist politician, arrives and executes a zombie companion to demonstrate the grim reality. Kohta refuses to surrender his weapons to Soichiro’s men, fearing he will become useless. When Soichiro confronts Kohta, the others intervene to defend him. Simultaneously, a student remaining with Shido reports the mansion’s status to him. Shido is currently presiding over an orgy with other students when he receives this information about the ongoing situation at the fortified location.
11EP 11Saya calms survivors while Takashi leads and Shido confronts Rei at the mansion
Sep 13, 2010Saya attempts to soothe survivors who reject their reality, leading to Takashi’s unexpected appointment as leader. Soichiro rewards Saeko with a katana for protecting his daughter and honoring her father’s teachings. As the group plans to rescue remaining families, Shido arrives at the mansion. An enraged Rei attacks him with a bayonet, revealing his father forced her to repeat a year to retaliate against her father’s corruption investigation. Soichiro informs Rei that Shido’s fate is hers, but she spares him, deeming him unworthy of death. Soichiro then orders Shido and his followers to leave due to their corruption. Meanwhile, a US submarine receives orders for a preemptive nuclear strike against China, North Korea, and Russia. On the International Space Station, the crew watches in horror as the US and Russia launch ICBMs at each other.
12EP 12DEAD'S attack on the mansion forces survivors to flee to a mall.
Sep 20, 2010US and Japanese naval forces attempt to intercept retaliatory missiles, but one penetrates defenses and detonates near Japan. The resulting EMP disables electronics, causing Shido's bus to crash and destroy a barricade. A massive zombie horde approaches the mansion, and despite Soichiro ordering the main gate closed, the zombies breach it, triggering panic. The Takagis direct their followers and remaining survivors to fight and retreat to an unbreached safe zone. They entrust Saya's safety to Takashi and his group, who fight their way to an EMP-resistant Humvee. After fixing the vehicle, the group departs the mansion while others hold off the horde. Despite the chaos, the group remains optimistic and eventually reaches a mall on foot.
