Orpheus meets the fiancé of his deceased sister, who claims to have investigated her murder in society's lowest circles. The man warns Orpheus and hands over a pocket watch previously given by his sister, but crashes his car into a tree immediately after leaving. Meanwhile, the king is scheduled to visit the academy, and Lui’s spy network reports a potential assassination plot. Unaware that his meeting with the fiancé was overheard, Orpheus is surprised by Beruze, who shoots him in the chest.
