Naoji recalls his family in Japan and questions his place in the Strahl class. The headmaster organizes a simulation tournament requiring Naoji to fight Orphe, but his uncertainty harms his results. Ed takes Naoji to town to encourage him, where they meet an innkeeper inviting them to a dying Japanese man. Naoji spends the night with the man and reads his autobiography, which helps him regain his confidence and strength.
