The Boshin War erupts between the Shinsengumi and imperialist forces during the Battle of Toba-Fushimi. Inoue is killed in front of Chizuru, and Kazama eliminates his murderers. Hijikata attacks Kazama, assuming he is responsible, and consumes Ochimizu to become a Rasetsu for combat advantage. Yamazaki intervenes to stop the fight but suffers severe injuries. Amagiri arrives to extract Kazama, ending the conflict. The Shinsengumi bury Inoue before sailing to Edo. Yamazaki dies from his wounds during the voyage and is laid to rest at sea.
