Lynn and Paul are at the stable when Sophie arrives, mentioning Isabelle’s transfer to the town school and apologizing for ruining Paul’s birthday. At Isabelle’s home, the group enjoys their time together, noting changes in Sophie. In her bedroom, Sophie reflects on her distant mother, who only called occasionally and gave her a doll on her 5th birthday. When Lynn leaves to water her dog, Sophie’s mother calls to speak with Isabelle. After breakfast, Isabelle instructs the girls to accompany Henry for a surprise. They arrive at Turner’s farm, where Bobby introduces Sophie to Florence, whose mother is Gloria’s sister. Initially believing the gift came from Isabelle, Sophie runs to the road and discovers her mother entering a car. Though skeptical, Lynn encourages her to reconcile. The two leave together, while Lynn hopes to eventually make amends with her grandfather.
