Kikyo, who survived falling from a cliff during her encounter with Inuyasha, now lives peacefully in a bourg. A monk named Seikai immediately senses her supernatural nature and later discovers that she must steal the souls of the dying to maintain her presence in the world. Meanwhile, Inuyasha, Kagome, Shippo, and Miroku investigate a neighboring castle concerning the absence of feminine souls. Their investigation inevitably leads them to Kikyo, bringing their paths together again amidst the mystery surrounding her survival and the missing souls.
