Irie initially treats Kotoko with disdain, refusing to assist her when she is pushed off a train. To force him to tutor her, Kotoko threatens to release an embarrassing childhood photograph unless she achieves a top 50 score. During their study sessions, their relationship improves, and Irie’s mother provides Kotoko with a good luck charm. Although Kotoko misses the train again, Irie helps her this time. She successfully reaches the 50th rank, while Irie places first. Upon opening the charm, Kotoko discovers a picture of them sleeping together while studying. Her friends tease Irie about this, causing him to angrily confront Kotoko.
