Ep. 4: Ai and companions enter Ortus, a city of the dead, meeting officials and a mysterious masked man.

Ai, Julie, and Scar travel in a repaired minibus, picking up Kiriko Zubreska, an Ortus governmental apprentice fleeing thieves. Julie warns Ai to conceal her identity as a gravekeeper. Kiriko explains that Ortus is a city of the dead with nearly one million undead residents, comparable to a small country. He notes that inhabitants kill gravekeepers drawn to the city, evidenced by a mass graveyard of gravekeepers on the outskirts. At the entrance, Ai notices a statue of the Guardian Goddess Koroshiohake, who wields the power of Death. Kiriko secures lodging for the group in quarters for living humans. City officials, the two-faced Pox and Wreck, thank them for returning Kiriko and permit entry, though Julie is reluctant. Kiriko requests they leave once repairs are complete. The next morning, Julie forbids Ai from leaving their inn while Scar falls ill, hearing a voice. That evening, Ai explores using a mask from the manager and meets a mysterious man in a lion mask who warns her to leave before Ortus reveals its dark nature. Meanwhile, Kiriko meets Princess Ulla Eulesse Hecmatika, who remarks she will save the world.
