Erin and Joh-on travel to the capital to purchase supplies. During their visit, Erin encounters Ia-lu, a Seh-zan musician playing the harp piece "Birds of Dawn." She later discovers Ia-lu preparing to kill Nuk and Mok, two former egg thieves she previously met in Ake. While a nearby woman sings the same lullaby, Erin successfully persuades Ia-lu to spare their lives. Impressed by her intervention, Ia-lu gifts Erin his harp. In gratitude for her mercy, Nuk and Mok declare their intention to follow Erin and repay her kindness. This encounter highlights the unexpected connections formed during their journey and the influence of music in resolving conflict.
