The Archangel, the Eternal, and the Kusanagi intervene to stop both factions from deploying weapons of mass destruction. Rau destroys Flay's escape shuttle, resulting in the deaths of all passengers. Flay's spirit subsequently appears to a grieving Kira to offer apologies and gratitude. Meanwhile, Patrick Zala is executed by an officer after choosing to sacrifice his own troops for victory. Kira destroys the Providence using the Freedom, while Athrun remotely detonates the Justice to eliminate GENESIS. With both the PLANTs and Earth Alliance forces in chaos, a moderate renegade faction within the PLANTs calls for a ceasefire, effectively bringing the war to a close.
