Set in Japan during the Taisho era between 1912 and 1926, Tanjiro Kamado resides in the mountains. After selling coal in town, he returns home to find his family murdered by demons. His younger sister Nezuko is the sole survivor of the massacre. Tanjiro descends the mountain during a blizzard to rescue her. Upon reaching her, Nezuko suddenly growls and attacks her brother. This event marks the beginning of their journey as Tanjiro attempts to save his sister despite her transformation into a demon. The narrative establishes the tragic circumstances that drive the protagonist's actions and the central conflict involving his family's fate and his sister's condition.
