Ep. 3: Tanjiro trains with Urokodaki and faces spiritual challenges from Sabito and Makomo before the Final Selection.

For one year, Tanjiro trains under Urokodaki, mastering Water Style swordsmanship while his sister Nezuko sleeps for six months. Urokodaki tasks Tanjiro with slicing a boulder to qualify for the Final Selection, the path to joining the Demon Slayers Corps. After six months of failure, Tanjiro is attacked by Sabito, a masked figure who defeats him despite Tanjiro’s real sword. Upon waking, Tanjiro meets Makomo, who teaches him Total Concentration Breathing to enhance his strength. She reveals she and Sabito were orphans raised by Urokodaki. Sabito continues to defeat Tanjiro in sparring matches until, after another six months, Tanjiro finally strikes him with a real sword. The siblings smile and vanish. Tanjiro discovers his blade has actually split the boulder, proving his readiness.
