Inspector Kenmochi, Hajime, and Myuki travel to Okinawa on the Cobalt Marine, a cargo freighter. Captain Kozo Takamori receives a letter from a Ghost Captain claiming a death cruise has started, and he accuses Navigator Mikihiko Wakaouji. Hajime finds Second Mate Joji Mizuzaki and crew member Yoko Katori involved romantically. Although Captain Takamori seems to vanish, he is later seen eating breakfast in his locked room. Reporter Yoshikazu Akai compares the situation to the Mary Celeste. The crew discovers destroyed communications equipment. Hajime calculates the time the suspect left the captain's room and checks alibis, but the results remain inconclusive.
