Hajime suspects Kon Omura of Hiyaku Publishing holds Tachibana's manuscript, but Omura is murdered with a golf club after directing Hajime to Wataru Tokito. Hajime follows Tokito to a construction site, where Tokito is killed by falling steel beams after pointing Hajime toward Katsura. While evading police led by Superintendent Akechi, Hajime finds shelter with newscaster Tetsuo Tsuzuki. He questions manga writer Ohei Katsura, who directs him to Nonaka Tomomi before Katsura is stabbed and killed. Suspected again, Hajime realizes Tachibana's individual messages to publishers may form a code, while his friends continue to support him.
