Ep. 22: Zatch and friends encounter Yopopo, who fights Kikuropu to protect Djem.
Aired on September 7, 2003

Zatch and Kyo practice a new spell while Zatch and Suzy hear singing from the Mamodo Yopopo. Yopopo’s book owner, Djem, initially mistakes Zatch for a Mamodo but apologizes and invites them to lunch, separating Yopopo. Djem recounts how Kikuropu attacked her parents while Zatch and Suzy dance with Yopopo. Later, Kikuropu attacks Yopopo, who fights alone until Zatch, Djem, and Kiyo arrive. Yopopo’s book catches fire, but he smiles, caring only for Djem’s safety. Kiyo, moved by emotion, finally activates the fourth spell. With Djem’s assistance, they burn Kikuropu’s book. Yopopo and Djem share a final hug, during which Yopopo finally says Djem’s name.
