Mirai battles a youmu at a playground, eventually killing it with amplified powers after Akihito warns her about finances. She reveals an ultramarine stone core, but faints after Akihito tends her wounds and offers her Literary Club membership. The next day, they take the stone to an appraiser, only to encounter the humanoid youmu Ai Shindou. Akihito explains youmu nature to her while attempting to gather intelligence on recent attacks from Hiroomi Nase, but fails. He then visits appraiser Ayaka Shindou to decode a postcard from his mother, Yayoi Kanbara. Ayaka reveals the Hollow Shadow, a powerful bodiless youmu that previously defeated five A-level Spirit Warriors, likely agitating recent low-level threats. Ayaka appraises Mirai’s stone, and Mirai uses the funds to buy Akihito a beef bowl, begging him to stay out of her dangerous affairs.
