Mirai sees a poster for the annual Nagatsuki City Lantern Festival, reminding Mitsuki of her ban from attending due to her duties. Ayaka hires Mirai at her shop and forces a photo shoot. They discuss Akihito’s depression after his youmu transformation. Mirai asks Mitsuki why she avoids the festival, receiving the answer that Spirit World Warriors are alone. Mitsuki recalls setting up chartreuse lanterns as a child and changes her mind. Mirai and Mitsuki meet Akihito and Hiroomi at the festival, implying they do not have to be alone. He uses his spear to inject massive energy into the entity, exposing a black sphere above the city that absorbs all local youmu. In the Literary Club, Yayoi confirms Mirai's survival and gives Akihito a stone shard to restore some powers. Ignoring Izumi's warnings, Akihito merges with Mirai's puppet self to enter the sphere, arriving just in time to catch Mirai during her battle with the Beyond the Boundary.

Akihito and Mirai overcome dark memories and battle a youmu army. Akihito defeats the Beyond the Boundary, reabsorbing it. The Mirror World and Mirai vanish, leaving Akihito grieving. Later, the world normalizes, the incident is covered up, and Hiroomi leads the Nase clan. Akihito runs to the school roof as Mirai's ring disappears, reuniting with her. He declares his feelings and returns her red rimmed glasses.
