EP 1Hiro enters an old VR game and accidentally kills an NPC, ruining his hero status.
Apr 7, 2021In Japan, VRMMORPGs offer five-sense immersion with human-like NPCs. Hiroshi Yūki, lacking funds for a new title, visits a shop where manager Reona Kisaragi sells him a decade-old game with high difficulty. As his avatar Hiro, he finds the world remarkably realistic. His initial quest to reach Flora Castle is blocked by childhood friend NPCs Alicia and Martin, who warn that leaving the city is illegal. When Martin attacks him, Hiro feels the pain and accidentally kills him during the struggle. Disturbed by the realism, Hiro flees into the city and encounters Reona in-game as a support fairy. She reveals that by killing Martin, he has earned the title "Best Friend Killer," thereby destroying his opportunity to become the Hero.
EP 2Hiro learns Kiwame Quest has no restarts and seeks Ginji for advice on his irreversible murder.
Apr 14, 2021Reona clarifies that Kiwame Quest lacks a restart feature due to its realism. She advises Hiro to consult Ginji, a player who also killed his best friend NPC, Enrique. Hiro understands that murder creates gameplay disadvantages. Alicia, a skilled knife user whom most players keep as a teammate, appears. Since Hiro killed Martin, he cannot recruit her. Reona, invisible to NPCs, blinds Alicia, enabling Hiro to log out. His friend suggests stopping gaming to avoid bullying. Upon returning, Hiro finds Ginji, a middle-aged drunk who killed his best friends without realizing the permanence. After ten years, Ginji has not won and recommends learning real-life martial arts. He mentions Kamui the Eternally Invincible, Never Bested Adventurer, as the sole winner. Ginji then removes Hiro’s disguise, exposing him as a wanted murderer.
EP 3Ginji warns Hiro about prison while Mizarisa and Reona confront him with torture threats
Apr 21, 2021Ginji advises Hiro to deny killing Martin to avoid prison, where Martin’s ghost haunts him over a forgotten childhood promise. Hiro notices Ginji is similarly haunted by his best friends. Mizarisa retrieves Hiro, warning of intense stimulation. He consents, assuming intimacy, but discovers she is the town inquisitor. She offers prison or torture. Reona appears, stating Hiro must endure pain to avoid being treated as a murderer. Mizarisa prepares to amputate Hiro’s limbs, but the torture stops. Reona examines Hiro’s title and realizes he accidentally unlocked a hidden skill and storyline by wetting himself in fear. This discovery avoids the torture. Reona is ecstatic, but Hiro furiously quits the game and vows never to play again.
EP 4Hiro Returns to the Game After Reona’s Marriage Proposal
Apr 28, 2021Hiro recalls high school bullying and quitting track due to mental weakness. In the present, he returns a game to Reona after losing money. She introduces him to politician Sōichirō Kamui’s unused walkthrough, noting his rude teenage behavior. Reona explains that Hiro must defeat Alicia without combat, obtain a sword, let Martin haunt him, and stockpile items before shops close. She persuades him to resume playing by promising marriage if he wins. Upon logging in, Hiro chooses an unknown storyline. Meanwhile, the antagonist Mizarisa identifies Hiro as her preferred victim, anticipating further torture. This narrative connects Hiro’s past trauma with his current gaming challenges and Reona’s unconventional motivation for his success.
EP 5Hiro Faces Continued Persecution and a Rescue by Mizarisa
May 5, 2021City Guard Captain Tesla declares Martin’s death an accident, freeing Hiro despite Alicia’s desire for revenge and villagers’ belief in his guilt. Needing funds for supplies, Hiro requests a loan from Ginji. After Ginji refuses, Hiro loses his temper, prompting Martin’s ghost to warn him about past rage. Ginji’s childhood friends appear to him, leading Reona to convince Ginji the conflict was a duel, resulting in Ginji giving up his gold and Hiro’s title changing. Seeking smoke bombs to defend against Alicia, Hiro visits Melissa’s shop but faces inflated prices. He tries to retrieve his starting sword but encounters Alicia. Attempting to use a smoke bomb, Hiro forgets to light the fuse due to realism rules. Alicia attacks, but Mizarisa intervenes, refusing to let Alicia kill her favorite victim.
EP 6Hiro confronts Alicia's unexpected skill and Martin's ghost while uncovering childhood memories.
May 12, 2021Alicia overpowers Mizarisa, prompting Hiro to recall his non-violent objective. His inappropriate touch triggers a realistic angry response from Alicia. Martin’s ghost appears, leading Hiro to confess his love. Alicia, unaware she is a game character, flees after revealing their childhood bond. Hiro understands Kamui’s guidance and asks Martin to continue haunting him, unlocking a memory of a promise to remain friends forever. Martin forgives Hiro and departs. Hiro’s title improves slightly, leading Reona to hope he can become the Hero again by repairing his sword. They then witness the city burning, an event Reona has never seen before.
EP 7Hiro faces a 0.1% survival rate after accepting a City Guard mercenary role.
May 19, 2021Hiro learns from a blacksmith that goblins are attacking, prompting Reona to warn him that death results in irreversible console shutdown. Reona notes that Kamui and SHOW HEY have defeated goblins, with Shouhei Aida admitting it was harder than fighting humans. Hiro saves a little girl NPC resembling his sister by unlocking a super speed skill derived from his real-life running ability. Tesla arrives to eliminate the goblins, revealing himself as one of the game's strongest NPCs. Hiro discovers that saving the girl added Lolita Complex to his title. Tesla recruits Hiro as a City Guard mercenary, which he accepts before logging out. Later, Hiro watches Kamui's walkthrough and realizes this choice carries a 0.1% survival rate, implying a 99.9% chance of console destruction if he continues playing.
EP 8Hiro faces survival odds and rigorous training under Tesla's command in the game world.
May 26, 2021Hiro discovers his 0.5% survival chance depends on enduring Tesla's five-day training and surviving a goblin attack. He tells Kaede he will remain in the game for five days. Inside, Tesla introduces him to Queen Govern. Hiro meets recruits Granada and Palù, alongside soldiers Cathy and Bob. His trainer is Amos, who arrested him for Martin's murder. Hiro fails against Amos, realizing his lack of combat ability, and faces ostracism. He oversleeps on day two, practicing alone while Granada and Palù bully him as a friend killer. Cathy offers to teach him basics. On day three, Granada beats Hiro in a duel, mocking him further. Hiro recognizes their behavior mirrors his real-life bullies.
EP 9Hiro Endures Bullying and Discovers the Truth Behind the Pranks
Jun 2, 2021Reona takes Hiro to a counselor who criticizes his combat skills, while Cathy suggests prayer that results only in holy water being poured on him. On day four, Palù beats Hiro and threatens Cathy, leading her to reject him. The following day, Granada quits after severe pranks. Tesla arrives with a letter blaming Amos for the harassment and demands answers. Cathy confesses that she, Amos, and the recruits failed to stop the bullying. Consequently, Tesla fires Amos, and the group apologizes to Hiro. That night, Reona admits she orchestrated the pranks, causing Hiro’s title to shift as if he were at fault. Despite the ordeal, Hiro chooses to fight the second goblin assault, risking his console. Impressed by his courage, Reona prepares to reveal why she truly wants him to continue playing.
EP 10Reona’s Revenge Plot and Hiro’s Bathroom Crisis During Goblin Invasion
Jun 9, 2021Reona explains that Kamui rejected her in-game due to her large breasts, prompting her vow to marry another player who finished the game as petty revenge. After logging out, Hiro notices Kaede’s growing concern. Kamui advises Hiro to ignore the walkthrough and fight directly. Tesla replaces Granada and Palù with Mizarisa and Alicia, ordering them to patrol the evacuated city alongside Hiro. The group captures a thief who reveals a crime boss instructed thefts before the goblins arrive. Infiltrating the headquarters, they discover the boss is Ginji. Hiro demands a solo fight, but Alicia defeats Ginji quickly. Ginji respects Alicia’s strength and regrets killing his childhood friends, accepting prison since cells are safe from attacks. Suddenly, goblins attack. Despite having just used the restroom, Hiro urgently needs to go again. While he is in the bathroom, an unprepared Hiro is confronted by a goblin.
EP 11Hiro uncovers Tesla's deception regarding the goblins and the city's true rulers.
Jun 16, 2021After Mizarisa attacks and Alicia helps Hiro escape, he shares his past with Reona, whose teasing cures his stomach ache. The goblin king One-Eye invades Queen Govern's palace, prompting Hiro to suspect the mission's low survival rate. Tesla captures goblins to distract One-Eye, leading Hiro to deduce they were abducted long ago. Tesla kills One-Eye, revealing he captured the goblins seven years ago and One-Eye was their father. Govern arrives to explain that goblins are intelligent and peaceful but use their fearsome reputation to control Ted. Tesla murders his men to conceal this truth, causing Hiro to recognize him as the true final boss he must defeat.
EP 12Hiro retraces his steps after Alicia's death to defeat Tesla with a cursed blade.
Jun 23, 2021Alicia forgives Hiro but is killed, prompting him to use speed skills against Tesla. Kamui reveals that strong emotions negate realism, allowing Hiro to stab Tesla before his sword breaks. Martin aids Hiro, transforming the broken blade into a cursed weapon. However, Hiro wakes up having forgotten Govern, leading to his death and console destruction. Depressed, Hiro discovers a walkthrough option to resume the game an hour earlier. He spends a month preparing, exercising, bonding with his sister, and confronting bullies. Realizing Kamui experienced the same loop, Hiro gains hope. Reona provides a new console, enabling Hiro to reenter the game with renewed preparation.
