Louis and Broglie confess to orchestrating Lia's death, citing the Royal Psalms prophecy that Maximilien, the King's true son, would destroy the royal family. They explain Maximilien was switched at birth to sever royal ties, and the King kept him and Lia apart because they share the same father through different marriages. Lia, bound by loyalty to the throne, protects Louis from Lorenza and Maximilien alongside Robin and Cagliostro. Saint-Germain, transformed into a Gargoyle, attacks Louis for the Psalms but is killed by Lia. Broglie attempts to strike Maximilien but is blinded. Lia later meets Maximilien in the gardens, where he dies after entrusting his revolutionary quest to Robin. D'Eon retrieves the hidden final verse of the Psalms from Lia's tomb, burns her body, and floats it down the river. Sharing D'Eon's body, he lives as a woman, witnesses the French monarchy's fall and Robin's execution, and spends his final days with Mary, the former Queen of England, reflecting on his losses.
