Ep. 20: Kid escapes rain with thief Nightmare while Inspector Nakamori tests traps for black opal jewels.
A rainstorm prevents Kid from using his glider, allowing the thief Nightmare to help him escape, though such partners usually die or get captured. A week later, Inspector Nakamori asks Kaito to inspect traps for rare black opal jewels. Kaito meets Interpol agent Chuck Connery and his son Kenta, who has a fatal brain disease. Chuck promises treatment if Nightmare is stopped. Kenta sneaks out to tell his father about a cure, but is sent away with Aoko. Kaito ensures Saguru Hakuba misses the heist. Kid steals the jewels, faking their disappearance with glass. Hakuba deduces the trick. Kid meets Chuck, revealing he is Nightmare. Chuck threatens Kid, but Kenta’s presence causes Chuck to fall to his death. Police praise Chuck as a hero. Kid destroys his mask so Kenta remains unaware his father was the thief.
