Godai and Mitaka Face a Fateful Duel During Final Exam Stress

While Godai studies for final exams, Mitaka remains heartbroken over his Yokohama trip with Kyoko and avoids tennis courts. Asuna overhears neighbors discussing Mitaka’s engagement status and, believing Shun is seeing another woman, heads to Maison Ikkoku to confront Kyoko. Instead, she encounters Godai. Yusaku notices Asuna crying and visits Mitaka to explain the situation, but Mitaka refuses to talk. The two men agree to settle their issues with fists, spending the night searching for a location while a persistent police officer interrupts them. They eventually drink away their troubles. Godai leaves the gathering and finds Kyoko waiting at the train station, where she slaps him upon seeing his drunken state. Meanwhile, Mitaka returns home to find Asuna waiting at his apartment door.

Asuna's Shocking One Night Salad Day

Mitaka reveals his lack of desire for engagement to Asuna, who accepts the breakup. She later finds a drunk Shun at her door, helps him inside, and is kissed by Mitaka. The next morning, Asuna leaves Shun with breakfast while her driver Kimita promises secrecy. Mitaka wakes with fragmented memories but recalls the kiss. At Maison Ikkoku, Godai faces Kyoko’s hostility and announces he will not stay. Yusaku chooses to remain at the Cabaret until graduation. Mitaka, fearing he overstepped, tracks Asuna to Izu. He learns she spent the night there but refuses to force marriage based on their encounter.

Asuna's Dog Pregnancy Misunderstanding Leads to Mitaka's Engagement

Mitaka visits Izu and questions Asuna about their night together, relieved to learn nothing inappropriate occurred. In Tokyo, Asuna’s mother initially believes her daughter is ruined but is pleased after Asuna explains the situation. Meanwhile, the family veterinarian informs Asuna that her dog, Salad, is pregnant. Asuna excitedly rushes to the tennis courts to share the news with Mitaka, but her vague explanation leads Shun and others to mistakenly believe Asuna is the one expecting a child. Distraught, Shun decides he must marry Asuna and visits Kyoko at Maison Ikkoku, where they share a quiet, sad moment. Later, at his engagement ceremony with Asuna, Mitaka discovers the truth about the dog’s pregnancy and is devastated. Although the misunderstanding spreads, Shun is already officially engaged. Mitaka and Kyoko continue to meet, with Kyoko expressing her hope that he will eventually find happiness.
